Privacy policy

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Ciseaux Montreal respects your privacy and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25. It applies to the app.coiffmtl.ca website and to the “Ciseaux Montreal” Android app available on Google Play. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what your rights are.

1. Person in charge of the protection of personal information

Teo Blanc, Cap Commun, Montreal, Quebec

Email: confidentialite@coiffmtl.ca

You can write to this address with any question, request for access or correction, or complaint about your personal information.

2. Information we collect

  • Account: name, email address, phone number (optional), preferred language, password (encrypted) or Google sign-in.
  • Pro profile: photo, display name, trades, specialties, languages, neighbourhoods accepted, travel time, availability, indicative rate, years of experience, school, portfolio photos, GST and QST numbers (optional, for invoices).
  • Salon profile: name, address, Quebec enterprise number (NEQ), photos, description, contact details.
  • Activity: listings, applications, shifts, messages (text and attached photos), reviews, reports and disputes, and the number of times salons viewed your profile.
  • Location: only the neighbourhood and metro station you choose and, for a salon, its address. The site and the app never access your phone's location (GPS).
  • Payments: amounts, invoices and transaction identifiers. Card data is processed directly by Stripe or Google Play and is never stored by Ciseaux Montreal. For a Google Play purchase, we only receive a purchase identifier, the product bought, the subscription status and the order number.
  • Payouts: to receive payments, you give your banking details directly to Stripe. Ciseaux Montreal never sees them and only keeps your Stripe account identifier.
  • Verifications: ID or diploma certificate uploaded to obtain a badge.
  • Technical data: IP address and browser type linked to your session, for the security of your account.
  • Forms: name, email address and message sent through the Contact page, and email address added to the waitlist.

We do not collect your GPS location, your contacts, your files or your phone's advertising identifier, and we show no ads.

3. Why we use it

  • To create and secure your account.
  • To display your public profile and your listings, and to calculate match scores.
  • To send you messages about your activity (application received, shift confirmed, payment).
  • To send you matching listing alerts and news, only if you have consented.
  • To process payments and issue invoices.
  • To verify badges, moderate reports and resolve disputes.
  • To meet our legal and tax obligations.

5. What is public

  • A pro's public profile (display name, photo, trades, specialties, languages, neighbourhoods, portfolio, badges and reviews) is visible once it is at least 80% complete. Email and phone number are never displayed.
  • The phone number is only shared with the other party once a shift is confirmed.
  • A salon's exact address is only shared with the pro once a shift or rental is accepted; the public sees the neighbourhood and metro station.

6. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell your personal information. We only share it with the service providers needed to run the site, who are contractually bound to confidentiality:

  • Stripe: card payment processing (amount, email address) and verification of accounts that receive payouts.
  • Google Play (Google): billing of subscriptions and single listings bought in the Android app, and verification of these purchases (purchase identifier only).
  • Resend: sending emails (email address and email content).
  • Twilio: sending text messages (phone number and alert content), only if you have turned on text alerts.
  • Cloudflare: hosting the site, database, photos and supporting documents.
  • Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google (name, email address and photo of your Google account).

We may also share information when required by law.

7. Hosting outside Quebec

The site, database and files are hosted by Cloudflare, whose servers may be located outside Quebec, including in the United States. Some of our providers (Stripe, Google, Resend, Twilio) also process data outside Quebec.

As required by Law 25, a privacy impact assessment (PIA) is carried out before information is communicated outside Quebec, to ensure it will receive adequate protection.

8. Retention

  • Your information is kept while your account is active.
  • Account deletion: done immediately from your settings, or within 30 days of a request made on the account deletion page. Your name, email address, phone number, photos (profile, portfolio, salon, messages), supporting documents and sign-in methods are then erased; the text of your messages is replaced with “message deleted”. Past shifts, reviews and payments are kept without your name, for other members and for accounting.
  • Session data (IP address and browser type) is erased when you sign out or at the latest 30 days after your last visit.
  • ID documents and certificates uploaded for a verification are deleted as soon as a decision is made; only the result (“verified” or not) is kept.
  • Invoices and accounting records are kept for the period required by tax laws (6 years in Quebec).

9. Security

Exchanges with the site are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, and access to information is limited to people who need it for their work. In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the people concerned.

10. Your rights

At any time, you can:

  • view and correct your information in your account settings;
  • download a copy of your information (JSON file) from your settings;
  • delete your account from your settings, or by making a request on the account deletion page (even if you can't sign in);
  • block a salon or a pro, and unblock them, from messaging, their profile or your settings;
  • withdraw your consent to alerts and promotional messages.

For any other request, write to the person in charge of the protection of personal information. We respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

11. Cookies

Ciseaux Montreal only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work:

  • the session cookie, which keeps you signed in;
  • the language cookie, which remembers your choice between French and English;
  • the active salon cookie, for people who manage several salons;
  • the app cookie, which indicates that the site is open in the Google Play Android app (it disappears when the app is closed).

The app may also keep a copy of the site's files (images, layout) on your phone so it opens faster; no personal data is kept there.

We do not use any advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

12. Minors

Ciseaux Montreal is intended for hair salons and hair professionals. The site and the app are reserved for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information about minors; if this happens, write to us at confidentialite@coiffmtl.ca and we will delete it.

13. Changes

We may update this policy. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page. For any significant change, we will notify you by email or on the site.
